Having majored in classical Japanese at university, I am well versed in Japanese culture and the roots of the language. Do you ever wonder why Japanese people do certain things or act a certain way at work, school, or in certain places? You never know – it may be the result of long-held Japanese customs. But at the same time, language is a living thing. When you hear new words or phrases, feel free to ask what they mean and whether or not it’s appropriate for you to use them. These kinds of questions are welcomed! Learning the foundations is important, but we’re also here to study the living Japanese that you’ll encounter in the real world, and not just in textbooks.
