The ALC Online Japanese School uses Skype, a communications service that offers free calling. Once you have set up Skype and completed registration, you can sign up for a free trial lesson.
Skype is a service provided by Microsoft. Before using Skype, please read and agree to the Skype Terms of Use and Skype Privacy Policy.
Apply for lessons
Skype setup
To take lessons, you will need to install and set up an account with Skype.
Please refer to the Skype Setup Manual (PDF, approx. 1.6MB).
Registration for membership information
Please fill out and return the "Application Sheet" sent to you by ALC Online Japanese Language School with your student information.
Free trial lesson sign-up
Sign up for a free trial lesson. It will only take about 10 minutes. Please refer to the Free Trial Lesson Sign-up Manual (PDF, approx. 0.6MB).
Please have a headset and Web camera installed.
Reserve a lesson
Login
After logging in from the home page, you will be directed to My Page.
Reserve a lesson
[1] On My Page, click the "Reserve/Manage Lessons" button.
[2] Select an instructor, date, and time, then click the "Reserve" button. Then select teaching materials and click "OK".
[3] Your reservation is complete. Look for an automatic confirmation e-mail in your inbox.
*Cancellations of reserved lessons must be done at least 24 hours before lesson start.
Taking a lesson
Launch Skype
Open Skype shortly before your reserved lesson begins. When you receive a "I'd like to add you as a contact", click the "Accept" button.
Receive Skype call from instructor
At lesson start time, you will receive a Skype call from your instructor. Instructors that receive no answer will continue calling periodically.
Start the lesson
Click the "Answer with video"button in Skype. The lesson will begin.
After a lesson
Evaluating lessons
When a lesson is finished, please evaluate your instructor. You can also leave comments.
Viewing comments from instructors
Instructors will provide comments within 24 hours of lesson completion. These can contain valuable information for review.
Purchasing courses
When your free trial lesson is finished, refer to the process described on pages 23 - 25 in the User Manual to purchase a course. Paid courses are reserved in the same way as described in the "Reserve a lesson" section above.
