Business Phone Call Course

This course provides intensive study in ways to handle phone calls (calling, receiving, transferring, etc.) in business situations. Students will learn about how to quickly respond appropriately when the person being called is away from her desk, when having a call transferred, and when taking a message. They will also learn methods for logically and concisely expressing themselves through short speeches.

What to do when a call recipient is unavailable
Students choose one theme and explain it in detail. Students learn what to do when a call recipient is unavailable (away from their desk or out).

Getting a caller to call a different department
Students choose one theme and explain it in detail. Students learn how to get a caller to call back to a different department

Taking and giving messages
Students learn how to use different vocabulary to explain themselves. They also learn how to take messages.

Denying requests
Students learn how to use different vocabulary to explain themselves. Students learn how to refuse requests without seeming rude.

Handling complaints
Students learn how to use different vocabulary to explain themselves. Students learn how to deal with complaints about a tardy or unavailable staff member.

Requesting a call transfer
Students review conjunctions and use them in conversation. Practice making phone calls and requesting call transfers through conversation.

Students review conjunctions and use them in conversation. They also practice making phone calls and appointments.

Leaving messages
Students learn keywords and use them in conversation. Students make phone calls and leave messages for their intended recipients.

Teaching materials and lesson formats

Every lesson will proceed according to a few pages of printed materials. In the first half of the lesson, you will practice giving a speech to become more effective at articulating your thoughts. The latter half of the lesson will have you focused on role playing, taking and making phone calls in a variety of situations.
